What is an Intense
Pulsed Light Treatment?
This laser emits an intense pulsed light, which penetrates the
skin to a depth of about 1-2mm (less than 1/8 of an inch). The
beam of light heats up and coagulates blood vessels and other
colored structures (melanin) in the skin. As the light pulse
targets the destruction of the vessel or pigment, it causes
minimal affects of the skin surface. Damaged vessels and/or
pigment are then absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible.
Are There Any
Contraindications to Being Treated With The Laser?
Contraindications may include the use of medications that increase
photosensitivity, uncontrolled diabetes, history of keloid scarring,
use of anticoagulants/blood thinners, or a history of bleeding
disorders.
How Many Treatments
Will I Need?
The number of treatments to effectively remove facial vessels,
freckles, or leg veins may vary from an average of 1 to 5 treatments.
Some clients may require more or less procedures, depending
on one’s individual response. Multiple treatments are
usually recommended over several months with gradual clearing
occurring over that time.
What Will I Look Like
Right After The Treatment And What Will The Healing Time Be
Like?
For
facial vessels, generally, the skin looks slightly sunburned
and may be slightly swollen after the treatment for up to 2-5
days. Occasionally, there is bruising, which can take up to
two weeks to resolve. Makeup can be used starting right after
treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently.
Vessels usually take 3-6 weeks to clear.
For freckles, age spots, the lesions generally
look darker for several days. Crusting may then occur, which
can last up to two weeks. The lesions will then begin to clear
and will generally be resolved within 4-6 weeks. Remember, it
may take multiple treatments to clear pigmented spots.
For leg veins, some immediate improvement is typically
visible with a warm sunburn feeling that may be experienced
right after treatment. Bruising, blotches and/or blemishes may
be noticeable and usually disappear over 2 to 3 weeks. Some
muscle soreness may be experienced after treatment sessions.
Do I Need To Do
Anything Special Before Treatment?
Please do not take any Aspirin, Advil/Ibuprofen, or Aleeve for
one week prior to treatment for facial vessels and leg veins,
as it may cause you to bruise. During and after the treatment
sessions, plan to stay out of the sun or use a hat and sunscreens
with a high SPF UVA/UVB.
